Kontra Pwofesè

Click here to sign the petition of support for SB 166:

  • Allows teachers to earn multi-year contracts,

  • Allows teachers to earn a 10-year teaching certificate,

  • Expands eligibility for advanced degree pay,

  • Reduces high-stakes consequences from standardized testing for high school students, and more!

Attacks on Worker Freedom: SB 1766/HB 1387:

  • SB 1766 (full text)/HB 1387 (full text) would restrict educators’ ability to advocate for themselves and their students.

  • SB (full text)HB 1217 (full text) similarly would restrict educators’ ability to advocate for themselves and their students.

  • This legislation limits how and when educators can discuss workplace issues with each other while on school property, restricting their ability to organize and advocate for better conditions,

  • Places onerous new restrictions on the ability of elected union officers to perform their job of advocating for teachers’ rights, and

  • Subverts democracy by holding union recertification elections to a greater threshold than any other election conducted in Florida.

Kontra Paraeducator

PEA's Legislative Priorities:

  • Higher pay for ALL PCPS educators (ESPs, Paras, and Teachers)

  • Local Millage to help create additional funding source for PCPS operations/salaries

  • Adjustment of the state formula for local funding to reclassify Polk from "rural" to increase funding

  • Protection of worker freedoms to join their union and maintain their union as a certified bargaining agent

  • Smaller Class sizes and ESE Caseloads

  • Reducing the educator shortage by reducing workload and stress
